We are delighted to be launching a third round of Community Capacity funding, thanks to £341,250 from Oxfordshire County Council. Grants will be made to help Oxfordshire’s residents to live independently and healthily for as long as possible in their lives.
Community Capacity Fund applications are now invited from charitable groups in Oxfordshire. The Community Capacity grants support the Council’s Oxfordshire Way vision: “to support the people of Oxfordshire to live well in their community, remaining fit and healthy for as long as possible: to build community resilience and increase independence”.
Local community organisations play a huge role in supporting people to thrive with less need for government services. The grants will aim to reduce inequalities and improve quality of life through increased physical activity, reduced individual isolation and loneliness and promoting emotional resilience.
Councillor Tim Bearder, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said:
“Community groups in Oxfordshire are one of our most valuable assets that support people to live well and independently in their own community.
On the surface, they offer an enjoyable hobby or place to get together and socialise. But underneath they’re providing day to day support for people who might otherwise suffer from isolation and poor health. The simple activity of going to these groups can make a huge difference for someone, enabling them to live happily and independently at home.
We don’t underestimate the value of these groups. They are the lifeblood of our Oxfordshire Way vision and we want to make sure they are supported to continue to do their essential work.”
Last year, 24 organisations received a share of £325,000 from the Community Capacity Fund, again funded by Oxfordshire County Council. One of those groups was Cholsey Volunteers who provide support to the elderly and vulnerable people in the village through a network of volunteers.
Thanks to a grant of £12,500 they have been able to increase the amount of people they support, with their hospital driver service providing 100 more lifts in the last year.
Their meal delivery service has also seen a 46% increase in the number of people they support, sharing out 2,600 meals, 1,560 treat bags and 1,976 food boxes in the last year.
The grants round opens on 16th September 2024 and will close to applications at midday on 14th October 2024.
