Dr Mark Fransham looks at the reasons behind the increases in the cost of living, including a flattening of true disposable income, inflation rises, fuel ‘stress’, the resultant policy responses and puts the national picture into context with Oxfordshire. The lowest income families are the hardest hit for a variety of reasons.

Mark is a Senior Research Officer and Departmental Lecturer in Quantitative Methods at Oxford University’s Department of Social Policy and Intervention. He is a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College and a Visiting Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute (III) of the London School of Economics & Political Science, trustee of the British Society for Population Studies and an advisor to the Office for National Statistics on the UK Population Theme Advisory Board and the Government Statistical Service Migration Expert Group
