The City Conversation is a coalition of people whose mission is “To ensure that nobody has to sleep rough on the streets of Oxford.” The steering group has now agreed a new partnership approach that will improve collaboration in working towards this goal.
Oxfordshire Homeless Movement has been hosted by Oxfordshire Community Foundation since its inception five years ago and is now ready to become an independent charity to take its work forward, filling gaps in homelessness provision and promoting partnership working.
A campaign was launched by OCF in December 2018, offering to match any public donations to Oxford Poverty Action Trust (OxPAT) pound for pound until January. OxPAT is a local charity with a 20-year history of giving funding to the key charities helping homeless people in Oxford.
The Oxford Homeless Movement partnership, which currently brings together 35 different organisations working with homeless people, is looking at solutions for groups of people that existing services find it difficult to engage with, such as women.
The recent tragic deaths in Oxford have saddened everyone involved in the homeless sector and beyond. They come as the City Conversation partnership on rough sleeping becomes Oxford Homeless Movement, with a vision to ensure that nobody should have to sleep rough on our streets.
The Westgate Fund has been instrumental in Oxfordshire Community Foundation raising an unprecedented amount to help homeless people in Oxford over the 2018–19 Christmas period.
OCF’s festive appeal to help homeless people in the city has received a brilliant public response, with £38,000 raised for Oxford Poverty Action Trust (OxPAT), to be matched pound for pound by OCF.
