For the second time, UK Community Foundations has been selected to distribute the largest share of Tampon Tax funding by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. This is money generated from the VAT on sanitary products, which will be passed on to small, local charitable projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls.

OCF is delighted to be working in partnership with UK Community Foundations again to deliver grant funding from the Tampon Tax Community Fund. OCF will be looking to work with community groups and charities who deliver projects supporting women and girls to build skills and confidence, improve their health and wellbeing, and build social networks.

Previously, OCF awarded grants to:

  • Henley-based Riverside Counselling Service who were given £9,700 to provide counselling for girls and women aged 12–20 who are experiencing mental health problems as a result of family and relationship difficulties.
  • Oxford Sexual Abuse & Rape Crisis Centre received £9,500 to recruit, train and support volunteer counsellors to work with survivors of sexual violence experienced at any point in their lives.
  • Children’s charity Fegans are using their grant of £5,000 to run a female-only parenting programme.
  • Home-Start Oxford received £9,935 for a Family Support Worker to help mothers who have increasingly complex needs, including poor housing, poverty, domestic abuse and extreme isolation.

Katharine Barber, Scheme Manager at Home-Start Oxford said: “The Tampon Tax provided a vital lifeline of funding for this service at a critical time. We’ve now secured a three year grant to continue our support to vulnerable women. Thank you to OCF and the Tampon Tax for helping us reach these mums when they needed us most.”

OCF is inviting applications through the Good Exchange – a funding platform that connects donors and funders with the groups they wish to support. Grants up to the value of £10,000 are available and the fund closes on Thursday 10th October 2019.
