NewsOCFIan Busby head shot

Ian will bring extensive business and consultancy experience to OCF, alongside his passion for local communities, which was cemented in his roles on the boards of the local Clinical Commissioning Group and a school academy trust.

OCF’s Board of Trustees was very pleased this week to appoint Ian Busby as Chair. An Oxford University graduate, Ian brings a wealth of professional experience to the organisation, with a long career in business services under his belt.

He spent a number of years as a civil servant in Whitehall before changing career to become a management consultant at Deloitte. As a Partner, he led the European e-commerce practice. He then became CEO of a US/UK venture capital-funded tech start-up that was an early promoter of online solutions to business, including cloud computing.

Ian is an Oxford resident committed to bettering wellbeing across the county. In 2012 he was appointed the first Chair of the Board of the NHS Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, which oversees health services for over 700,000 people living in Oxfordshire. He was also deputy chair of an Oxford schools academy trust.

He maintains a strong interest in innovation, providing strategic and funding advice to university and other start-ups. Ian will use this expertise in acquiring funding to bring more assets into OCF for the benefit of OCF’s local community initiatives.

Ian’s priority as OCF’s Chair is to help raise the profile the foundation in the wider community, and develop new philanthropic opportunities. Ian says: “I am delighted to be joining the foundation, a body that has shown during COVID how extensive funds can be rapidly channelled to support those most in need. I am looking forward to working with an excellent and dedicated team, and with those who are so generously funding our initiatives.”

Ian takes over from Nick Case as Chair, who took on the role in early 2020 and saw OCF through the pandemic year. Nick remains a member of the Trustee Board and will take forward our Development Committee, which is building stronger philanthropic networks for the community and voluntary sector across Oxfordshire. OCF would like to thank Nick very much for his hard work and commitment to the organisation.
