Maggie’s Day at the Story Museum
Thursday 27 June, 2019 @ 11:45 am - 3:00 pmFree
Maggie’s Day is an annual event at The Story Museum and is a chance for Maggie Evans’ family and friends to remember her and to celebrate her love of books and stories. The team from OCF will be there to support the family. The Maggie Evans Fund was set up with OCF by her family in her memory and is used to help children discover interests that were Maggie’s own passions: a love of reading stories and appreciating illustrations, and the exploration of different cultures through languages and translation.
Each year, at Maggie’s Day, a celebrated children’s author runs a workshop for children from primary schools in deprived areas of Oxfordshire, resulting in much fun and creativity that inspire a love of reading. Attendance is by invitation but if you are interested please contact Kati Evans firstname.lastname@example.org
This year’s guest presenter will be Peter Chand, an internationally reputed storyteller who recreates the stories of his native India, with a little bit of the Birmingham area thrown in. Children from nine primary schools will have prepared by reading and writing stories in advance. Some of them will be selected to come on the day and bring their work.
The plan for the day is:
11.45am: Visitors start to arrive
12.00pm: Buffet lunch
12.30pm: Start of main event in the Story Exchange with Introductions and performances from students
1.15pm: Peter Chand’s storytelling performance
2.15pm: Schools leave; guests have tea with Peter and the organisers of Maggie’s Day, with the chance to look at children’s work
