Age Friendly Banbury’s Big Virtual Lunch
Saturday 6 June, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
Organised nationally by Eden Project Communities, The Big Virtual Lunch is the UK’s thanksgiving weekend for neighbours and communities – a time where people come together to celebrate community connections and get to know one another a little better. Our Age Friendly Banbury partnership is leading on getting older people in North Oxfordshire online for this event.
Now more than ever, we need to make time for each other, so let’s get the nation talking over a cuppa and a bite to eat and have some fun with The Big Virtual Lunch. Spearheaded locally by Visit Banbury CIC, the Age Friendly Banbury partnership is engaging with older people through its community connections, via care homes, and using its network of charities and community groups in the area to bring as many older people online to share lunch on Saturday 6th June.
Originally planned as a live event, Age Friendly Banbury has pulled out all the stops to engage older people in Banbury and around to join the event virtually. Participants need to organise tea and cake for 3pm, and try to wear a hat which is fun and/or represents their character! OCF’s Age Friendly Banbury Coordinator Bee Myson comments: “Many participants will need a lot of support to join in, and some of them will be getting online and joining a Zoom call for the very first time. By supporting them and demonstrating the benefits of this technology, we hope to start building better digital skills and openness for the future, helping people feel less isolated, even beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.”
