Oxfordshire Community Foundation has partnered with national charity Comic Relief to provide £10,000 in grant funding to 13 different groups across the county that provide vital support to all sorts of vulnerable people.

Comic Relief is a charity that supports some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in the UK and throughout the world’s poorest communities. Every year, Comic Relief partners with community foundations operating across the UK to give a portion of the funds raised through Red Nose Day and Sport Relief to grassroots local charities and community groups.

OCF has now allocated £10,000 in Red Nose Day Community Cash grant funding to the following Oxfordshire-based groups:

  • Aldates Community Transformation Initiatives
    The Community Meal – a three-course meal once a month for homeless people
  • Balsam Family Project
    Parenting classes for young families who are particularly isolated or struggling in some way
  • Berinsfield Information and Volunteer Centre
    Refurbishment of the drop-in advice centre that helps people access help and benefits
  • Bicester Good Neighbour Scheme
    Befriending service for older and vulnerable people in a deprived area
  • Blackbird Leys Adventure Playground
    Playground facilities for children from struggling families in a deprived area
  • Bookfeast
    Book club for older people operating in sheltered accommodation and residential homes
  • Cutteslowe, Wolvercote and Wytham Co-operative Trust
    Community transport scheme for isolated older people to access social support and activities
  • Fielding Day Centre
    Transport for wheelchair users to attend weekly lunches
  • Fritwell Forget Me Nots
    Transport costs and entrance fees for elderly, disadvantaged people attending trips out
  • Oxford Polish Association
    Workshops and family days for the Polish community, breaking down barriers to inclusion
  • The Oxfordshire Wheel
    Advice and training on health, social care and benefits for people of any disability
  • SAFARI
    Community café for adults with special needs living in and around Thame
  • Wood Farm Youth Centre
    Youth group for girls providing a safe and supportive space in an underprivileged area

Each group will receive a grant of between £500 and £1,000. As this list shows, the funding from Comic Relief is a much-appreciated source of support to small groups doing great work right on our doorstep, and a lifeline to many local people living tough lives.
